Truck Driver Awaits Sentencing Following Conviction In 2015 Crash

Truck drivers play a pivotal role in the economy by transporting goods between locations so consumers can have access to essentials such as food, gas and clothing. Often, truck drivers are required to drive for extended periods of time in order to meet deadlines and stay on schedule. While many trucking companies in New York prioritize safety, and encourage their drivers to operate their vehicles responsibly, they cannot completely control the behavior of every driver.

In a story that made national headlines, a deadly accident in Tennessee was the direct result of an impaired truck driver. The man was recently convicted for 12 different crimes for the crash that cost 6 people their lives. In June 2015, the man reportedly slammed into motorists who were stopped in a construction zone near an interstate exit. Initial reports suggested the man had meth in his system, and evidence at the scene revealed he had never attempted to brake before the collision. Findings also reported the he had ignored signs indicating there was work on the roadway. While defenders claimed the man had fallen asleep at the wheel, prosecutors relied heavily on witness reports and toxicology findings to persuade the jury. Crash reconstruction also aided in building the case. Following his conviction, the man remains in custody while he awaits sentencing.

If a truck driver has been charged with causing a crash, he or she may benefit from the assistance of a qualified attorney. A legal professional can help provide a strong defense and help guide people through a legal trial.
